Himata Biswa Sarma Taps his Feet to Folk Songs

GUWAHATI: The chief minister of Assam was seen putting his dancing shoes on and performing a few steps with the school students who came to visit him at his official residence on Sunday.

During his visit to the Hatinga Tea Estate Model School in the past, Himanta Biswa Sarma had promised the students that he will be sharing the mid-day meal with them. Keeping with his promise, the chief minister took the initiative to invite the students over for the visit to Guwahati.

"Delighted to interact & host students of Hatinga TE Model School, Sootea, for dinner at my residence along with my wife @rinikibsharma. The evening was made memorable by the talented students performing jhumur, Tusu dance, singing folk songs & Jyoti Sangeet, recitation, etc." mentioned the chief minister over Twitter.

The students of the school had prepared a presentation of the traditional Jhumur performance for the chief ministers and other dignitaries present for the occasion. And when they started the performance, the CM also joined and tried out a few steps when the students of the school asked him to join them. Padma Shri Dulal Manki and popular singer Gitanjali Das also performed in front of the visiting students and guests on the occasion.

As a part of his project to interact with the children of the far-flung regions of the state, students from a school located in the Sonitpur district of the state were invited for an interaction session with the popular chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma. As a part of this visit, these students also get to have a meal with the chief minister of the state before getting a guided tour of a few popular destinations of the city including educational institutions and museums. They visited the Guwahati Planetarium, Assam State Zoo cum Biological Garden, Science Museum, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra as a part of this visit.
