LAKHIMPUR: Like the previous years, the Lakhimpur district unit of the Hindu Yuba-Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) observed August 14 as ‘Akhanda Bharat Divas’ this year too. In this connection, the organization organized a day-long programme on Sunday in its office, located in North Lakhimpur town. The agenda of the programme started with the unfurling of the organizational flag by Lakhimpur district unit HYCPA president Jugmajyoti Dutta. General secretary-in charge Ghanakanta Borah conducted the swahid tarpan event. On the other hand, HYCPA central committee general secretary Madhav Das garlanded the personified portrait of ‘Bharat Mata’ in addition to lighting the earthen lamp in front of it.

The public meeting organized on the occasion commenced with Jugmajyoti Dutta in the chair in the presence of several prominent citizens and office bearers, members of the organization. Speaking on the occasion, HYCPA central committee general secretary Madhav Das said, “Some evil forces have still been hatching conspiracy relentlessly to separate the nation again. But we never should allow them to be successful in fulfilling their vested interest.” He called upon the youths to play a vital role to nip such conspiracy in the bud and appealed the public to work unitedly to serve the nation and to secure its integrity. Jugmajyoti Dutta, while explaining the terror of the dark days after the separation of the nation, threw light on how the greater nation separated into several pieces due to ‘divide and rule policy’ of the British. He expressed grievances for the ‘Bharat Mahadesh’ being separated in nine parts during the period from 1876 to 1971.

Lakhimpur district unit Pensioners’ Association president Madhav Hazarika attended the programme as guest of honour. He explained about the glorious heritage of the nation while encouraging the gathering to render devotional services for the nation’s wellbeing. The programme was also attended by HYCPA central committee executive member Bitumoni Gogoi, along with the members of the regional committees under the district committee.
