LAKHIMPUR: A Homen Borgohain Memorial Lecture event was organized as a part of the 4th day agenda of Dhakuakhana Book Fair-2021.

In the event, Sailen Baruah, senior journalists-writer said that Homen Borgohain was a figure with sharp intellectual consciousness.

"Generally people were somewhat afraid of him thinking him to be an angry person. Actually, Homen Borgohain Sir himself made this circle of anger in order to carry on his creation without any interruption. So, people could not get chance to trouble him every now and then," said Sailen Baruah.

"As a result of it, he could contribute tremendously to the Assamese literature with his unique creations despite he was a busy editor of a newspaper," he added.

Further Baruah stated that Homen Borgohain as a journalist too was admirably conscious. He led a fight against corruption with a non-compromising attitude till death.

The lecture event commenced with Amiya Kumar Hundique, the retired professor of Dhakuakhana College, in the chair. Dr. Swati Kiran, Assistant Professor of Dibrugarh University, also took part in the event as a speaker. Holding a detailed discussion on the short-stories composed by Homen Borgohain, Dr Swati Kiran said, "The serene rural environment, the simplicity of rural people has been reflected in the short-stories of Homen Borgohain. Similarly, the influence of Western Literature is also evident in his short-stories. He reflects the double standards of people living in the modern society through some of them. His consciousness on nature is also evident in his several short-stories".

Prior to the lecture event, a poetry recitation programme was organized in the book fair among the students. The programme was held under the chairmanship of Dhakuakhana Normal School instructor Aparajita Burhagohain. It was inaugurated by Prafulla Chutia, the headmaster of Dhakuakhana Girls' High School.
