Homen Borgohain's 90th birth anniversary observed as 'Pragyar Din' in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Rich tribute was paid to Dr. Homen Borgohain, the noted intellectual, journalist, litterateur of the State, in his native district Lakhimpur by observing his 90th birthday on Tuesday in a befitting manner.

The Dhakuakhana Sakha Xahitya Xabha and Lekhika Samaroh Samiti observed the event as 'Pragyar Din', in collaboration with Dhakuakhana Normal School. The public programme organized on this occasion commenced with Dhakuakhana Sakha Xahitya Xabha president Bidya Dutta in the chair under the management of secretary Dr. Jitu Kumar Chamua. It began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by writer-poet Shiva Prashad Gogoi and with the presentation of Chira Senehi Mor Bhasa Jononi — the title song of Axam Xahitya Xabha, presented by the students of Dhakuakhana Normal School and members of the Lekhika Samaroh Samiti. The programme was inaugurated by Sewok Chandra Chutiya, the professor of Dhakuakhana College.

Attending the event as chief guest, Anindya Borgohain, the eldest son of Homen Borgohain, ruminated the colourful memories of his childhood days spent in Dhakuakhana and on the bank of River Charikoriya with his parents. "Dhakuakhana has been deep-rooted in me and the memories of the place have been flowing in my blood. We hoped to come to Dhakuakhana along with my father. But COVID-19 pandemic did not let it to happen," Anindya Borgohain said while delivering his speech.

Professor of Ghilamora North Bank College, Dr. Naren Das took part in the programme as appointed speaker and spoke on the life and works of Homen Borgohain. Purabi Duworah, professor of Moridhal College, and Dr. Basanta Mangal Dutta, professor of Machkhowa Degree College, took part in the programme as invited guest and special guest. A host of literary personalities were present in the programme.

Homen Borgohain Nyas (Trust), which came into being in 2012 in order to preserve and spread the creations of Homen Borgohain, also observed his 90th birth anniversary at its office premises by organizing unique programme in collaboration with the Internal Assessment Cell of the Dhakuakhana College. The programme began with the lighting of earthen lamps and paying of floral tribute to the portrait of Homen Borgohain by the members and dignitaries of the trust. It was followed by a symposium on the 'Importance of studying Homen Borgohain'. The symposium was chaired by Prafulla Chutiya, the headmaster of Dhakuakhana Girls' High School.
