NALBARI, ASSAM:

The people of Nalbari have been witnesses to the occurrences of numerous floods, many of which are caused due to artificial reasons. This has been going on for many years.

Many of the illegal structures constructed have been the primary cause of man-made floods in that region.

On Monday, Nalbari Development Authority conducted an eviction drive. A team led by Nalbari Development Authority principal Bandeep Deka and member secretary and Urban Planning Department assistance director Govinda Sonowal during the eviction drive demolished Hotel Premdar, located in Nalbari's Gopal Bazaar.

The whole city's water pours through the Premda Hotel and into the Phulguri sewer. However, due to the hotel's high walls, the water is prevented from flowing into the sewer causing floods in the area.

Strict action has been taken on behalf of the Nalbari Development Authority against the hotel, culminating in its demolition, because the site where the hotel sits causes water blockage during rains, causing inconvenience to the inhabitants of that region.

As per sources, the rainwater blockage happens due to the lack of drains, and to make matters worse, the hotel is situated on the drain whose walls prevent the rainwater from flowing into the drain, thereby causing a flood.

The Nalbari Development Authority made this great move today under the tight supervision of Jayanta Malla Baruah, the current MLA for the Nalbari seat.

The operation undertaken by the Nalbari Development Authority has received immense praises from the people of the area.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (IDMA) destroyed a wall of the residence Sushil Sarma on Nalbari Hajo road a few days ago. The wall stood over a drain.

Nalbari Development Authority Principal Bandeep Deka remarked that the Development Authority is cleaning drains as a consequence of MLA Jayanta Malla Barua's significant efforts in this regard.

The recently appointed Deputy Commissioner Geetimani Phukan, Nalbari Municipality Executive Officer Chayanika Thakuria, Nalbari Public Works Department, and East Nalbari Development Block Office have all shown their willingness to assist in this matter.
