HPB Girls' College organizes national webinar as part of Poshan Maah in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: Grihamalini Forum, Department of Home Science, in association with IAPEN, organized a national webinar entitled 'Identification of SAM Children in Community Level' recently as part of National Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah).

As a component of Jan Andolan, this webinar was an attempt to sensitize the audiences about the dreaded effects of malnutrition, especially on children. Ananya Kashyap, Head of the Department of Home Science, briefly highlighted the importance of the webinar. India is facing the ill-effects of undernutrition, she said in her welcome speech.

Principal Bipul Chandra Bhuyan inaugurated the webinar. Resource person Sangita Saikia, Public health Nutritionist, Tezpur Institute of Medical Sciences Pvt. Ltd, delivered her lecture on 'Identification of SAM Children in Community level'. Chaudhury gave a detailed view in her talk about undernutrition, its root causes and its treatment protocols. District-wise report of the number of SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) children in Assam is alarming. In many districts, it is increasing gradually. She emphasized the growth of kitchen gardens in households and the inclusion of nutritious food in the daily diet of children under the age group of five years. She also mentioned the government's initiatives to overcome from the ill-effects of acute malnutrition on a child's overall health.
