GUWAHATI: In yet another setback for the students appearing for the High School Leaving Certificate Examination this year under the Board of Secondary Education in Assam as the education department has decided to postpone the examinations scheduled for Saturday. The announcement regarding this development came at around 9.30 PM on Thursday and the examination will now be conducted on April 1.
The education minister who had earlier announced the cancellation of the General Science examination announced the cancellation of the examinations for the MIL subject owing to a possible leak of these papers as well and announced that the new date of examinations will be declared on Friday. This tweet came after the CM had announced the cancellation of the Assamese paper scheduled for Saturday.
"It has been brought to my notice that the arrested accused centre in charge of Luhit Khabalu HS School has, during interrogation, confessed to leaking Assamese paper as well. In view of this, I have advised SEBA to reschedule the Assamese exam also," announced Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The education minister of Assam Ranoj Pegu tweeted, "SEBA has informed me that as advised by HCM @CMOfficeAssam, the exam of all MIL subjects, including English (IL) of HSLC scheduled for 18 March, will be rescheduled. The new date will be announced tomorrow.@himantabiswa"
The leak of the science question paper for the HSLC examination triggered protests from multiple circles of the state. The state government had also ordered an enquiry into the matter leading to the arrest of nearly 30 people within the week. School principal, officials on examination duty, general staff schools and even students were arrested by the police in relation to this incident.
The chief minister even went on to mention that these incidents showed the failure of the state government and accepted the blame for the same in the state assembly. Education Minister announced that the exams scheduled for March 18 will now be conducted on April 1.
