GUWAHATI: As the Assam Police continues to carry out their investigation into the leaking of an examination question paper, new facts are coming in to light about the sharing and selling of the question papers.

The Director General of Police in Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh made a shocking revelation on Thursday when he mentioned that the question paper for the General Science subject was sold for upto Rs 3000 over the popular messaging platform WhatsApp. He also mentioned that the state police are now working with the authorities of the Meta-owned chat application to reveal the identity of the original source of the leaked question paper.

"The investigation has revealed that the question paper of the General Science examination was sold for anything between Rs 100 and Rs 3,000. We have found that somewhere it was sold for Rs 100, somewhere for Rs 200-300, and it went up to Rs 3,000. Assistance is being sought from WhatsApp to identify the origin of the leak," mentioned the police chief of the state.

"I am happy with the investigation and the progress we made over the last three days. Hopefully, we will crack this case soon. We will send some more packets of the question paper from upper Assam to the CID headquarters for the purpose of the investigation," Gyanendra Pratap Singh added.

The General Science question paper became available to the public ahead of the scheduled examinations on Monday forcing the Education Minister of Assam to call off the examination late at night on Sunday. This incident attracted a backlash from several organisations including opposition parties and student organisations. The police investigation is still underway to reveal the main culprit of the incident and several arrests have been made to date. The examination is now scheduled to be held on March 30.
