BOKAJAN: In a major development, the Karbi Anglong police arrested four persons and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Bokajan on Friday.

As per reports, a joint team of police and 5 Assam Rifles based in Dimapur launched an operation in the Gharialdubi area of Bokajan and seized a .22 rifle, 3 pistols, a Chinese grenade and a country-made grenade. Besides, several rounds of ammunition and magazines were also recovered. Four persons identified as Krishna Orang, Robert Haro, Raju Ghatawar and Lukash Kangari have been arrested in connection.

Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong police said that the arrested individuals were not part of any militant organization and investigations were on to ascertain the exact motive behind possessing the illegal firearms.

"Basically, the intel was received by the Assam Rifle troops that a group of armed miscreants had sneaked into Assam from Dimapur by crossing the Dhansiri River. We cooperated with the team and a raid was conducted leading to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition early Friday morning," SDPO John Das said. The possibility of the arrested youths planning to execute armed robbery in the area cannot be ruled out.

Earlier, an established businessman of this area was shot dead by a gang of armed robbers at his residence back in June, 2019. The gang decamped with cash, jewelry and the licensed pistol of the businessman. The incident has since then remained a mystery as police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.
