HAFLONG: In protest against the brutal killing of Santosh Hojai and demanding immediate arrest of Surjyakanta Morang, DSP HQ and CBI inquiry into the kidnapping of Santosh Hojai, various organizations along with general public of Harangajao staged dharna at Harangajao autostand on Friday. Hundreds of people taking part in the demonstration shouted various slogans.
On April 24 at around 6 pm amidst the heavy security, Santosh Hojai was kidnapped from his house at Harangajao and on April 30 his body was recovered along NH 27 around 100 km from his home at Lailing under Langting police station Dima Hasao district. Jayanta Hojai, wife of Santosh Hojai along with some neighbours rushed to Harangajao Police Station to lodge an FIR soon after the incident. Surprisingly Officer-In-Charge, Harangajao Police Station refused to accept her written complaint by stating that her husband would return by night. The next day she again tried to lodge the FIR but was refused again by the Officer-In-Charge of Harangajao Police Station.
After she moved to the High Court on April 26, then only her FIR was accepted by Officer-In-Charges, Harangajao Police Station.
In this regard the Civil Organization of Dima Hasao District, Assam urged immediate suspension of the Officer-In-Charges, Harangajao Police Station and compensation of Rupees 1(one) Crore to the victim family. They later burnt the effigy of Surjyakanta Morang who was accused to be involved in the kidnapping and killing of Hojai.
