HYCPA vows to continue its fight to fix 1951 as base year for NRC update

The 29th foundation day of the Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) was observed by the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization on Tuesday.

LAKHIMPUR: The 29th foundation day of the Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) was observed by the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization on Tuesday. On this occasion, the organization held a public programme at its office premises near ASTC office of North Lakhimpur town.

The agenda of the programme began with the unfurling of organizational flag by Lakhimpur unit HYCPA president Jugmajyoti Dutta. After unfurling the flag, Jugmajyoti Dutta conveyed gratitude to the native people and all well wishers for extending their cooperation towards strengthening the organization throughout the last 29 years. In his speech he laid stress on continuing the organizational movement in order to get the burning issues of Lakhimpur district as well as the State resolved. Under the flag, the activists of the organization took pledge in order to carry on the fight to fix 1951 as the base year for NRC update and to check the aggression of Christian Missionaries and China.

Followed by it, Lakhimpur district unit HYCPA general secretary Rajib Singh conducted the smrititarpan event commemorating the supreme sacrifices of those who embraced martyrdom for the land and the organization. Senior citizen of Lakhimpur and president of Lakhimpur District Pensioners' Association, Keshab Chandra Bhuyan garlanded the personified portrait of Bharat Mata.

In connection with the event, the organization accorded warm felicitation to a number of prominent figures of the district and presented a sapling to each of them. The activists of the organization further undertook massive plantation drives in various places in Lakhimpur, including the departmental office premises. Then the organization organized nam-kirtan at the district office praying for the world peace. In the evening, Lakhimpur district unit HYCPA vice-president Rupam Baruah inaugurated the lighting of earthen lamps in the office and other places of North Lakhimpur town.
