KOKRAJHAR: With a view to make Kokrajhar town clean and green, the district administration, in association with the Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB), has started the 'I live Kokrajhar' campaign. The prime objective of the campaign is to create a hazard-free atmosphere in the town by keeping it clean and green.
Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Phukan on Friday announced the 'I love Kokrajhar' campaign after shifting the vegetable vendors of main Kokrajhar market to the three-storey permanent building in presence of State Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, KMB chairman Bishnu Narzary and others. He said the district administration had started its task of making Kokrajhar clean, green and healthy through 'I love Kokrajhar' campaign. He said they would take all measures to make Kokrajhar one of the cleanest towns in the State and appealed to all residents to support this mission. He also said that simple extension of support would not work and people of Kokrajhar must come forward and join the campaign.
The Government Pensioners' Association, Kokrajhar, and Kokrajhar Merchant Association joined the campaign. The campaign has received tremendous response from officers, conscious citizens and artistes. They opined that everybody had moral responsibility to make Kokrajhar clean, green and healthy. The shifting of vegetable vendors to the permanent building in the southern side and at Gangjema Bazar in the northern side of the town has eased the traffic congestion, he said.
Meanwhile, Kokrajhar town is emerging as one of the cleanest towns of Assam under the chairmanship of KMB Bishnu Narzary. He has started Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) through which the KMB collects garbage from house-to-house in every ward of the town and segregation is done for reuse. The SLRM has become a success in Kokrajhar and through this, the dumping of garbage and disposal has become more organized. At the same time, the KMB has already started evicting illegal occupants and stalls on the drainage and roadside.
Former Rajya Sabha UG Brahma welcomed the 'I love Kokrajhar' campaign and hoped that the town would become the most spectacular town in the State. On social media, Brahma said the first thing to do in Kokrajhar was to improve the drainage system. He said the drainage system in Kokrajhar town was not systematic and organized due to which there was water-logging and artificial flooding.
