IASST Guwahati distributed Scientific kits to 12 high schools of Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati distributed scientific kits to 12 high schools of Kokrajhar district through a programme held at Simbargaon High School on Monday. The high schools which received the scientific kits includes-Simbargaon High School, Alari High School, Jainari High School, Gaurang High School, Magurmari High School, Dotma Girls' High School, Chitila High School, Dotma Higher Secondary School, Alayaron High School, Bodofa High School, Banargaon High School and Bongshigaon High School. The IASST has initiated a lab experience-based science education for school students of BTC under the SEED programme of the department of science and technology, Government of India in accordance with the new NEP, 2020.

The distribution programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Dhruba Sharma, Deputy Registrar (Academic), IASST, Guwahati. Dr. Sharma in his welcome address highlighted the objectives and importance of this programme. Sharma said under this programme, till now in two phases they have covered 18 government schools with approximate 2500 students in BTC for science education through direct teaching and/or lab based demonstration by IASSST scientist/resource persons. He said this project will help to improve student's ability to identify questions and will enhance their concepts that guide scientific intelligence and will directly or indirectly benefit over 58,000 students of BTC from class VIll to XIl to achieve the above objectives to enhance mastery of subject matter among ST students of BTC area as laboratory experiences may enhance students understanding of specific scientific facts and concepts and the way in which these facts and concepts are organized in the scientific disciplines and developing scientific reasoning among tribal students in which laboratory experiences may promote a student's ability to identify questions and concepts that guide scientific intelligence.

In his speech, the Director of IASST, Prof. A. K. Mukherjee said through this programme the IASST aims to promote science education in the Northeast particularly in BTC region.
