Gossaigaon: The three-day ICCSR sponsored international seminar on ‘Gender and Development: A Global perspective’, organized by the Department of Economics, Gossaigaon College, was inaugurated on Monday by former parliamentary secretary-cum-retired Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Gossaigaon College.
Representatives from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and India are taking part in the seminar, which will conclude on August 28. The workshop started with flag hoisting by Dr NK Brahma, Principal of Gossaigaon College, followed by registration and cultural programme. Later, the guests were felicitated by Dr Dinesh Das, convener of the Seminar Organizing Committee.
Prof. Archana Sharma, Director of Economics, Gauhati University, started the speech as key note speaker, followed by Prof. Mallika Pinnawala, Department of Sociology, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and Dr Kushum Shakya, Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
Apart from these speakers, Prof. Sanzida Akther, Department of Women and Gender Studies, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh said that sustainable development could only be possible with gender equality in the society and women empowerment.
