GUWAHATI: Shunning down the negative social media comments on Assam's star athlete Hima Das for being appointed as the honorary Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said compared to the sacrifices they have made in order to bring laurels for Assam, 'it is just nothing.'
Assam's top sprinter Hima Das, who brought international fame for India and that to Assam, have been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police recently, and this has attracted a lot of debates in the social media.
The Assam Chief Minister further said that, "as a topmost executive head of the state If I could, I would have appointed the star sportswomen Hima Das and Lovlina Borgohain as Deputy Commissioners, but that is not in my power. My capacity does not allow to that."
While talking to the media, Chief Minister today further added, "They (Hima and Lovlina) are making us proud. They are dedicating their valuable time for us and our glory. They are the most deserving people in the state and the government must take care of them because in future, they must be awarded for the sacrifices they are making in their youth."
CM Sarma further pointed out that, the various states governments' in the country have given high ranking government employments to ace sportspersons. "I have not paid attention to the social media discussion and I will never act as per the criticism. We have seen that the Andhra Pradesh government has awarded a high ranking government post to shuttler PV Sindhu. Likewise, the Manipur government has also given Additional Superintendent of Police appointment to Mira Bai Chanu."
The Assam CM concluded that, both the athletes Hima Das and Lovlina Borgohain have brought tremendous fame for the state of Assam and the state also recognizes their contributions and hardwork. "People must refrain from such things and realize the achievements they have done for us," he added.
