BAJALI: Despite ban, police in Bajali allegedly failed to check the illegal gambling during the Diwali celebration in the Kharadhara area which was started on October 23 for 5 days. Locals alleged that illegal gambling in remote areas of the district led to the misuse of time and money of young people as well as society at large.

Hemanta Talukdar Central, president of Hindu Parishad said, "In puja devotees come to offer puja and seek their blessings for better health and prosperity and also for removing obstacles of life. It is a 'festival of lights', not 'gambling'. But here some gamblers are running such illegal activities in Kharadhara area. Kharadhara village under Patacharkuchi police station is popular for gambling during Diwali celebration." "This gambling is harmful to society and the area is famous for Kali Puja. It's a shame on the Bajali police. They should take action against the gamblers." he added. As per report, earlier Hindu Parishad filed a complaint later to the Superintendent of Police against illegal gambling on October 21.
