HAILAKANDI: A joint team of Excise and local police raided three tea gardens under Lala Police Station and destroyed illicit distilled liquor and fermented wash on Wednesday. Inspector of Excise, Surendra Nath Barman said a joint team of Excise personnel and local police raided Koyali, Ramchandi and Junglitilla tea gardens and destroyed 15 litres of illicit distilled liquor, 210 litres of fermented wash and three sets of distilling apparatus. Barman disclosed that two persons have been arrested and cases registered against them.

The Excise department has been on an intensive drive against illicit liquor and has seized and destroyed a huge quantity of illicit distilled liquor and fermented wash across the district. Several arrests have been made in this connection. "The drive against illicit liquor will be further intensified in the coming days," added Barman.
