TINSUKIA: Margherita excise department has further intensified operations against illicit liquor trade and a two-wheeler without number plate was seized in an operation conducted on Wednesday.
The excise raid was conducted at Digboi Town, Golai No.1, and Balijan areas under the Digboi Police Station. Four cases were detected in the operation with realization of Rs 10,000 as fine in the cases. The raid with assistance from the Digboi Police was led by A.H. Barbhuyan, Deputy Superintendent, Excise Circle, Margherita in the presence of Pranta Pratim Patra, Assistant Commissioner of Margherita. The raid yielded 30 litres of illicit distilled liquor, 9.36 litres of IMFL, 9.10 litres of beer and government duty paid liquor were seized and destroyed in the exercise.
SARUPATHAR: The Barpathar police team while patrolling, intercepted a Mahindra Scorpio vide registration number AS 03 AD 0980 at Simoluchapori under Dhansiri subdivision and during search, the police seized six cartons of IMFL containing 288 bottles (180 ml each). In this connection, two persons have been arrested and they have been identified as Akash Borah, son of Jugen Borah of Barpathar town, and Robert Brown, son of Paul Brown of Itakhola in Jorhat.
Meanwhile, the arrested persons were brought to the Barpathar police station for interrogation. Later, the Sarupathar Excise department was informed for necessary action.
