DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma Police plunged into action against cockfighting (Aakhara) in Daimukhia TE, near Doomdooma, on Monday. Usually it is a custom among the tea-tribes community to organize such 'Aakhara' from December onward for about three months and these are held on almost every day of the week. However along with Aakhara one can witness free sale of illicit liquor and gambling going on in such places. As a consequence, criminal activities like incidence of assault, family feuds, theft, looting take place in tea-garden areas during this time. Although none has been arrested so far, yet the police seized three motorbikes and 15 cycles from the Aakhara site of the aforesaid garden.
