Implementation of NEP discussed at FIP in Tezpur University

The Teaching Learning Centre (TLC), Tezpur University on Wednesday started the next round of month-long Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) in online mode.

TEZPUR: The Teaching Learning Centre (TLC), Tezpur University on Wednesday started the next round of month-long Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) in online mode. The programme was inaugurated by the Education Adviser to the Government of Assam, Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta.

Prof Subhrangshu Sekhar Sarkar, Director, TLC, Tezpur University, in his welcome address emphasized the significance of the FIP and discussed the challenges in teaching and how to address those challenges by teachers in present times by giving an overview of the programme.

In his inaugural speech, Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta dwelt upon the important role of teachers in present era. Commenting on NEP 2020, Prof Mahanta said that in order to implement the guidelines of NEP certain intervention of technology in education and structural changes in teachers' role is needed.

He further said that education must provide intellectual foundation to students and teachers should become facilitators rather than merely being education giver. Drawing inferences from the ancient Gurukul system to our present system of education, Prof Mahanta said that teachers need to combine the characteristics of a good teacher that were possessed in ancient times known as Adhyapak, Upadhyaya, Acharyya, Dhrista and Guru. Altogether 180 participants from different educational institutions attended the inaugural programme.
