Importance of library in higher education highlighted at Panigaon OPD College, Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The National Librarians’ Day was celebrated on Saturday at Panigaon OPD College, a leading academic institution of Lakhimpur district, on the occasion of 131st birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr SR Ranganathan, who is revered as the ‘Father of Library Science’.

The event organized on the occasion was held in the presence of the principal of the college, faculty members and students of different departments along with the office staff. The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr Suresh Dutta by lighting the earthen lamp and paying floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. SR Ranganathan. Librarian Porinita Taye gave a brief introduction on Dr. SR Ranganathan and his contribution towards the profession. She highlighted his famous quote ‘Library is the heart of educational institutions. Well-functioning heart keeps the body healthy and lively. Efficient library creates healthy educational atmosphere’.

In his lecture, Principal Dr. Suresh Dutta threw light on the importance of library in higher education. He thanked all the library staff of the college for their notable role with regard to maintaining the college library well to create a reading environment. The Principal asked the students as well as the academic staff to visit the library regularly to acquire and refresh their treasure of knowledge. Librarian Porinita Taye expressed her gratitude to everyone for their corporation while observing the event.
