In loving memory of Dr Ranjan Sarma

Sentinel Digital Desk

With heavy hearts, we come together to bid farewell to a remarkable man whose kindness touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. My beloved father, a beacon of love and warmth, has embarked on his final journey, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

On September 12, Dr. Ranjan Sarma, lovingly called Ranju (Da) by friends and family, left this world. Born to Satyabati Devi (Luku) and Dr. Taruneswar Sarma (Pita), Ranju passed away, just after having celebrated his 75th birthday. He was one of three children and everyone who knew the family spoke of Ranju-Rinu-Kukie in one breath. His unconditional love and warmth extended to his cousins, nephews and nieces, and their growing families. His family was his identity. And we were in awe of his incredible capacity to recollect the complex and multi-generational family tree of the Sarma family of Kamalpur TE, Jorhat.

Ranju spent his early years studying in the Jorhat Government Boys High School and then studied medicine at the Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. He cherished his friendships from school and college. He had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went.

Travel, music, movies and politics were some of his passions. He was a brilliant conversationalist and could strike up a conversation around a myriad of topics. Ranju leaves behind his wife, Dr. Bonomala Bezbaruah and their two children Rajdeep Sarma and Ritisha Sarma, (and their spouses and young children).

And as we gather to say our goodbyes, we do so with a heavy heart but also with gratitude for the time we had with such an extraordinary soul.

Let us remember the beautiful songs he sang, the strangers he became friends with, and the love that surrounded him. My dearest father, your absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but your love will forever fill our hearts. Rest in peace, Ditom.
