Guwahati: In yet another accident, a truck broke through the railings of the Kalia Bhomora Bridge in Sonitpur district on Thursday night.
However, the truck remained suspended at the edge as compare to incident on November 22, where a vehicle breached the railings of the bridge and went missing in the river.
Reportedly, the incident occurred at around 1-2 am, late on Thursday night.
As per initial reports, the helper of the truck named Dilip Tassa is believed to be missing and there is speculation that he might fell into the river after the collision.
Reports also claimed that the steering of truck was jammed due to which it collided with a freight-carrying vehicle and after that it rammed into the railings.
Notably, on November 22, a vehicle breached the railings of the bridge and went missing in the river at the said bridge.
On Monday morning, a local police patrolling team espied the broken railings of the bridge.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the river with help from emergency services workers.
Meanwhile, the Sonitpur district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Army have been called in for help.
"Looking into the extent of damage into the railings we suspect that the vehicle which has fallen into the river is a heavy one like a truck," informed an Assam Police personnel from the spot.
"Right now SDRF and River Thana are conducting the search operations," he further added.
The Kalia Bhomora bridge connects the Nagaon district of Assam to the Sonitpur district.
It is not for the first time that such an accident has taken place over the bridge in the Brahmaputra. The bridge has been known for such accidents which with some losing their life as of yet.
