TINSUKIA: The Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Yuva Sangha, which has been spearheading indefinite OIL blockade at EPS Baghjan and established a temporary relief camp for affected families outside the DC office, Tinsukia, has temporarily withdrawn their agitation, besides agreeing to shift out from DC office premises on certain conditions.

The new Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner, Diganta Saikia, after assuming charge, took highest priority to settle the contentious Baghjan compensation issue and held tripartite meeting with Sangha activists and OIL authority on September 18. While indefinite EPS blockade at Baghjan cost the OIL very dear, amounting to loss of oil production to the tune of Rs 200 crore in just two days, all previous negotiations with erstwhile Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Pegu failed to evoke any positive solution.

Satyajit Moran and Tikhnajyoti Hazarika, president and secretary of Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Yuva Sangha, in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on Sunday, stated that honouring his request in the meeting held on September 18, they had decided to lift the oil blockade at Baghjan and also the temporary relief camp for seven days. They also informed that they would resort to agitation again if no solution was made within seven days.

As the living environment is not conducive in the vicinity of the blazing Baghjan BGR 5, the Deputy Commissioner advised the Sangha activists to search rented accommodation for the displaced and affected families while the administration would sort out modalities with OIL authority for payment of rent.
