Independence Day celebrated across Assam with fervour

LAKHIMPUR: Amid the enthusiastic environment of 'Har Ghar Tiranga campaign', the 76th Independence Day was celebrated across Lakhimpur district on Monday along with the rest of the nation. The programmes, organized on this occasion by Lakhimpur district administration, kicked off with patriotic songs by District Information and Public Relation Department. The National Flag was hoisted in the public residences, governmental, non-governmental and academic institutions across the district. The central programme organized by the district administration on the occasion was held at North Lakhimpur Government HS School playground.

Revenue and Disaster Management, Hills Area Development Minister Jogen Mohan took part in the event as chief guest. After paying floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan, the minister hoisted the National Flag at 9am. He paid deep homage to the freedom fighters of the nation and commemorate their dedication and sacrifice while fighting for achieving freedom from the colonial power. In his speech, he elaborated the developmental activities implemented by the State Government across the State as well as in Lakhimpur district. Then he took the guard-of-honour from police, military and para-military forces and NCC cadres in the parade.

Speaking on the occasion, Jogen Mohan said, "India's freedom is the outcome of the supreme sacrifice made by the freedom fighters and the generations of the time when our nation was under British colonial rule. On the other hand, National Flag is the symbol of our prestige and sovereignty of the nation. We should respect it." He lauded the people of Lakhimpur for making the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign initiated under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12 in 2021 to mark the completion of the 75 years of India's Independence.

DIBRUGARH: The Harijan Mazdoor Union (affiliated to AITUC) Dibrugarh Municipality Board celebrated the 76th Independence Day at the New Market Labour Colony in Dibrugarh on Monday where hundreds of safai workers including their family members participated along with several Anganwadi wokers and helpers. Ranjan Chowdhury, president of Harijan Mazdoor Union Dibrugarh Municipality Board and secretary AITUC AssamState Committee hoisted the National Flag.

Chowdhury while describing the detailed history of India's Independence mentioned that it was the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) who first raised the demand for Sampurna Swaraj that is Complete Freedom in 1929. Chowdhury who is the son of renowned freedom fighter late Barin Chowdhury expressed deep concern about the miserable conditions of safai workers even after 75 years of Independence.

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Demow Revenue Circle Office and in association with the people of Demow, the 76th Independence Day was celebrated in Demow Public Playground on Monday. As per the schedule, the programme started with hoisting of the National flag in government offices and establishments. The ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was lit by Lok Nath Gogoi, Retired Principal of Demow Higher Secondary School. The Swahid Tarpan was offered by Mary V Ralsun, ALRS Circle Officer (A) of Demow Revenue Circle. The National Flag was hoisted centrally at Demow Public Playground by Phyllis VL Hrangchal, ACS Circle Officer of Demow Revenue Circle. The winners of different competition which were organized were given prizes. The Marwari Yuba Mancha, Demow Branch distributed fruits among the patients of Demow Model Hospital.

SIVASAGAR: Independence Day was celebrated on Monday in Sivasagar district with a day-long programme. Minister for Industries, Commerce and Cultural Affairs Bimal Bora formally hoisted the National Flag while participating as the chief guest at the central function of Independence Day held at the historic Boarding Field under the initiative of Sivasagar district administration.

Before hoisting the Tricolour, the minister participated in the Swahid Tarpan programme held at the Anandaram Baruah Park and Swahid Piyoli Phukan Park to commemorate the brave martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence of the country. After hoisting the National Flag, the minister received salute from the police and paramilitary forces who participated in the parade.

In his address as the chief guest in presence of Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal and Superintendent of Police Shubhrajyoti Bora, the minister recalled the supreme sacrifice of the country's brave martyrs, freedom fighters and recalled the courage and valour of the security forces engaged in the border and internal security of the country.

KOKRAJHAR: In Kokrajhar the 76th Independence Day was celebrated by the district administration with patriotic fervour at Government HS School playground. People from various castes, creeds and religions took part in the celebration.

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTR Pramod Boro hoisted the National Flag as the chief guest after inspecting the guard of honour displayed by police, CRPF, NCC and school students. He also paid rich floral tribute at the tomb of national martyrs. The event was also attended by BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, EMs, MLA and MCLAs of BTC.

Addressing in the public gathering, the CEM of BTR Pramod Boro said the UPPL-led alliance government in BTC has taken up various innovative schemes for sustainable development in the region by crushing down the corruption and lack of rule by previous government. Since the coalition government assured people to establish peace and reformation by overcoming in to power, the council government has given stress on performing, reforming and transforming in the council to make a clean, green and smart Bodoland.

TINSUKIA: The Margherita Sub-Divisional (Civil) Administration celebrated the 76th Independence Day with much pomp and grandeur at Central Field, Margherita. Palash Rajkumar Ahom, ADC i/c, Margherita hoisted the National Flag as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Ahom, recalled the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in the pursuit of freedom. He said, "Today we have come a long way and witnessed 75 years of freedom as we celebrated Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and the people enthusiastically hoisted our National Flag at each house, office, school and establishment." He encouraged all to keep up with the spirit and work towards nation building. The marching parade was led by Parade Commander Pankaj Bora, SI Digboi. Many school children also participated in the plethora of cultural events. The celebration ended with distribution of plant saplings to all esteemed guests by the North East Sanjeevani Society of Margherita.

The Tinsukia district administration organised the programme centrally at ITI playground where Sanjoy Kishan Minister for Tea Tribe Welfare & Labour hoisted the Tricolour. In his long address, Kishan elaborated successful implementation of various welfare schemes undertaken by the line departments in the district. He inspected the march past presented by security forces, NCC, Scout-Guide and number of educational institutions. Various schools presented the cultural items including patriotic songs.

MANGALDAI: Tremendous enthusiasm was witnessed among the cross section of the society in the ceremonial celebration of the Independence Day at Kachari Maidan here in Mangaldai. A large number of people including senior citizens, women activists, students took part in the celebration in a festive atmosphere. Darrang Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarma taking part in the celebration as the chief guest hoisted the tricolour. Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia, he received the salute from the contingents of SSB, Assam Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and students of JNV Darrang who took part in the March Past. He also inspected a guard of honour. Addressing the celebration, he recalled the contribution and role of prominent freedom fighters of the district namely Pandit Dineswar Sarma, Tankeswar Sarma, Ratneswar Sarma, Pani Ram Das, Bipin Chandra Medhi and others and appealed the younger generation to study the life and works of these freedom fighters. In his speech he paid his homage to the 140 Krishak Swahids who offered their supreme sacrifice while taking part in the historic Krishak Vidroh at Pothorughat on January 28, 1894. Earlier he offered floral tribute at the bust of Father of the Nation at DC's office at the bust of Lokapriya Gopi Nath Bordoloi. The district administration also arranged an attractive display of fireworks at Kachari Moidan.

TANGLA: Braving hot and humid weather conditions, hundreds of people flocked to attend the Independence Day celebration to express their spirit of freedom to mark the 76th Independence Day on Monday. The entire Udalguri was washed in the colours of saffron, white and green. The central programme was held at the Deputy commissioner's parade ground where Udalguri MLA cum BTC Deputy CEM, Gobinda Chandra Basumatary hoisted the tricolour.

In his speech, he detailed the various undergoing government schemes and the schemes on cards including the projects to be undertaken to develop the Udalguri district. He also inspected the guard of honour presented by the students groups of various institutions and security forces. The Udalguri district committee of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) on the occasion distributed fruits to the inmates of Udalguri civil hospital. In Tangla town the event was held at Tangla HS playground where Harisinga Revenue Circle Officer, Manisha Nath hoisted the Tricolor. The students of various schools and institutions also presented scintillating performance on patriotic numbers.

Tezpur: The 76th Independence Day was observed centrally by Sonitpur district administration in a grand ceremony held at Church Field, Tezpur. Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, etc., Ashok Singhal who was present as the chief guest on the occasion hoisted the National Flag and inspected the Guard of Honour. He recalled the contributions of the hundreds of freedom fighters who laid down their lives to attain the country's independence from foreign rule. He also spoke about the major achievements of the State in the past year, and the various people-friendly schemes and policies brought about by the Assam Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Earlier, he paid homage to the martyrs of the 1962 Indo-China War at the War Memorial located at Circuit House, Tezpur and also offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur as a mark of honour to the martyrs of the freedom struggle of the country.
