MANGALDAI: A unit of the Indian Army, in its continuing benevolent service towards fellow countrymen living in the far-flung areas, particularly along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district, has offered a pre-Bhogali Bihu gift in the form of two borewells with electricity facility to provide drinking water at village Amlaiguri and Hattigor High School in village Khairajangal.

Both the projects were inaugurated in the presence of Karan Bhagra as the representative of civil administration on Wednesday. Each borewell project has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 5.25 lakh and has the capacity of 2,000 litres of drinking water. For this purpose boring was done up to 230 feet.

During summer, both the villages face acute shortage of drinking water and the villagers are compelled to ferry water from far away. This project will fulfil the requirement of potable drinking water to the villagers for years to come. This effort by the Indian Army was highly appreciated by the locals.

Both the remote areas where the borewells have been installed by the Army fall under Udalguri Legislative Assembly constituency and the constituency has long been represented by cabinet minister Rihon Daimary, both in the Congress and BJP governments. Yet the rural villagers of a vast area along the Indo-Bhutan border have long been deprived of potable drinking water.
