TEZPUR: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative by the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Independence and the glorious history of our people, culture and achievements, is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable the vision of India as a global leader in all spheres, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Under the umbrella of this grand and illustrious Mahotsav, the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army organized a cultural event aptly themed Matribhumi ko kavyanjali, which celebrated the gift of independence by honouring the freedom fighters through an unique blend of music and poetry.

Accomplished speakers, namely Jaideep Saikia and Satish Kumar reminisced the achievements of great freedom fighters, social activists, poets and literary icons like Ambikagiri Rai Chowdhury and various other unsung heroes of the freedom struggle from the north-eastern region. Further, the event included recital of poems by eminent Sahitya Akademi Award winners such as Dr Rajab Muchahary, Mridul Haloi, Dr Bijoy Sankar Barman and Dwijen Kumar Das as also poems composed by students from various colleges.

The latter part of the event took the shape of a musical fest which was orchestrated as an electrifying mix of folk dances by college students, songs in various languages, martial dance and a fusion music presentation by internationally acclaimed classical violinists Lalita and Nandini.
