Indian Army Signs MoU With Tezpur University For Chinese Language Learning

GUWAHATI: In a bid to increase its capacity to engage the Chinese in their native language Mandarin, the Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tezpur University on Wednesday.

The MoU provides for training the Indian Army personnel in the Chinese Language, more often called Mandarin.

The duration of the course will be of 16 weeks and will be conducted at the Tezpur University campus.

HQ 4 Corps signed the MoU on behalf of Indian Army and the Registrar of Tezpur University (TU) signed it on behalf of Tezpur University in the presence of TU Vice Chancellor Prof SN Singh.

Tezpur University was established as a central university in the year 1994 by an act of parliament. The university is one of the pioneering institutes in the North East in teaching of foreign languages, including Chinese. A highly qualified faculty imparts teaching of foreign languages.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, the Indian Army said this Chinese language or Mandarin language course will improve their in-house expertise and empower the army personnel to engage with their Chinese Military counterparts as and when the situation demands.

“With improved Chinese language skills, the army personnel will be better empowered to convey their points in a much more cogent manner. It will also help in better exchange of view points and understanding of the Chinese PLA’s version of their activities during various interactions such as Commander Level talks, Flag Meetings, Joint Exercises and Border Personnel Meetings etc,” the press statement reads.

In another significant move and in keeping up with the pace of technology and fulfilling the spirit of Digital India, the Indian Army started conducting its first ever Online Common Entrance Exam across the nation on Monday. This marks a major shift in the recruitment procedures of the Indian Army.

With improvement in the technological threshold in the nation and with enhanced digital awareness, the youth is now empowered to undertake online exams.

From this year onwards, the recruitment will comprise of three stages. In the first stage, all candidates will undergo the Online CEE. In stage two, the shortlisted candidates will be called for recruitment rallies at locations decided by respective Army Recruitment Office for Physical Fitness Test and Physical Measurement Test. In the third and final stage, the selected candidates will undergo a Medical Test. The final merit list of the successful candidates will be declared thereafter.
