Haflong: In protest against the attack on peaceful protesters on Thursday during the 12-hour bandh, the Indigenous People’s Forum has called for indefinite Dima Hasao bandh from February 11, informed working president of IPF, S Jeme.
During the February 6 12-hour bandh, at least three persons were injured following scuffle between the two groups of bandh supporters and non-bandh supporters in which David Keivom, president, NCHISF, David Tuollai and Gounieng Vaiphei of Indigenous Women Forum were injured.
Meanwhile, the Dima Hasao District Magistrate has imposed U/S 144 Cr.PC stating that information was received that some untoward incident took place in some areas of Dima Hasao district due to the 12-hour bandh called by the Indigenous Peoples Forum on February 6.
The 12-hour bandh had been called on February 6 by the Indigenous People Forum (IPF), a local organization. The stated reason was the “demand of immediate implementation of the task force report for creation of separate district with a separate Autonomous Council under the prevention of article of 244 (2) & 275 (1) of the sixth schedule to the constitution of India.”
However, things took a turn for the worse when bandh supporters were confronted by a bunch of irate locals, and a scuffle broke out between the two factions. Later, the police and the district administration were summoned to bring the situation under control.
