HAFLONG: Following an invitation from the Government of Assam to hold a discussion on May 9, the Indigenous People’s Forum postponed the indefinite Dima Hasao Bandh till May 9. This was informed by the working president Samsedimbe Jeme at a press conference held at the office of the Indigenous Students’ Forum at Haflong on Tuesday.

The forum, during the mass rally at Haflong on March 23, had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, N.C.Hills district, Haflong with an earnest prayer to take necessary steps and fix the date for a tangible initiative towards the materialization of the IPF’s demand by April 10 failing which the forum would be compelled to call an infinite Dima Hasao bandh. Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) had given a call for an indefinite Dima Hasao bandh from April 26 since there was no response from the government. IPF has been demanding the bifurcation of Dima Hasao district, the creation of a Separate Autonomous District with a Separate Autonomous Council, and the demand for revocation of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council’s notification regarding the verification of the Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC).
