GUWAHATI: In a developing case that has captured public attention, Anurag Chaliha, the prime accused in the tragic death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha Secretary Indrani Tahbildar, has been placed under police custody following his detention on Monday, August 14. The incident, which has sparked concerns about political pressure, unfolded in Sivasagar's Demow and has since moved to Guwahati's Chandmari Police Station.

Initial reports indicate that Anurag Chaliha is facing charges under Sections 120 (B) and 386 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have been granted a seven-day custody period for further investigation, with a court hearing scheduled for August 23.

The case took an unexpected turn when Chaliha, during police questioning, claimed that Indrani Tahbildar had been subject to political pressure and intimidation from an individual named Abhimanyu Das. Chaliha accused Das of leaking intimate pictures that allegedly led to Tahbildar's tragic decision to end her life.

However, Ritesh Tahbildar, the bereaved husband of the deceased BJP leader, has denied any knowledge of political pressure on his wife. He expressed surprise at the allegations made by Chaliha and reiterated that Indrani had never disclosed any such pressures to him. In the official police complaint, Ritesh Tahbildar had initially named Anurag Chaliha as the prime suspect, though he remains unaware of the individuals Chaliha has implicated.

Ritesh Tahbildar provided insight into the circumstances surrounding his wife's passing. He revealed that he was out of town in Kolkata for work on the day of the tragedy and was informed of the incident by their house help around 5:15 pm.

Despite the allegations of political pressure, Ritesh Tahbildar stressed his lack of involvement in politics, further emphasizing his limited knowledge of such matters. He disclosed that Anurag Chaliha, the individual captured in the controversial photograph with Indrani Tahbildar, had been residing with Indrani's parents on rent.

As investigations continue, the case raises questions about the potential impact of political pressures on individuals' lives, especially those involved in public roles. The developments surrounding this incident underscore the complexities that can arise at the intersection of personal lives and political dynamics, leaving a community seeking answers and justice for Indrani Tahbildar.
