DOOMDOOMA: The pest control in tea gardens is an essential step that engage the management every year. Production of green tea leaves largely depends on it. Sometimes some unseen varieties of pests that are uncontrollable pose as a great challenge in the face of all known devices. It is in this context that the Tinsukia District Small Tea Growers Association (TDSTGA) has devised an innovative method for pest control in their respective tea gardens.

According to this plan, the small tea growers would plant the saplings of varieties of fruit trees in their tea gardens so that when these trees would grow up and bear fruits, the birds would come to eat the fruits in large numbers. In the process the birds would also eat the pests to the great relief of the tea growers to get rid of the pests without having to take recourse to using pesticides. The small tea growers are quite hopeful of the success of this new innovative pest control device. The TDSTGA has already decided to plant 60,000 saplings of various fruit trees in their gardens within a week.
