Insurance policies for crops distributed among farmers in Koliabor

The District Agriculture department, in association with the district administration, distributed crops insurance policies under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for summer season crop

NAGAON: The District Agriculture department, in association with the district administration, distributed crops insurance policies under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for summer season crop, especially sugar cane and 'Bodo' paddy among the farmers of the district at a function held at the Agriculture Subdivision office, Koliabor on Saturday.

The programme was initiated as Mur Policy Mur Hatot with Rs 1 for one hectare crop land by Future Generally India Insurance Company. The main prospect of the scheme is to relieve the financial hardships of the farmers' community of the country during the period of flood and other natural calamities. District Agriculture Officer Tarun Hazarika, the Guwahati based General Manager of Future Generally India Insurance Company - Amitabh Gupta, SDO, Agriculture, Koliabor, Bishnu Ranjan Saikia, senior agriculture officers Bhadra Kr Bora and Mijanur Rahman Chowdhury graced the occasion and spoke on the privileges as well as other benefits of the ongoing Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana across the country.

A total of 65,448 farmers have insured their summer season crop, especially 'Bodo' paddy under the PMFBY scheme till date in the district. Gracing the occasion, district agriculture officer Tarun Hazarika said that the scheme sponsored by the Union Government would help the farmers community to compensate the labour as well as their money to be invested in their crops during flood and other natural calamities and urged to all farmers to grab the opportunity of the scheme.
