BARPETA: Barpeta police on Thursday nabbed two persons associated with the inter-state cyber crime racket. They have been identified as Farid Abdullah and Ziaur Rahman of Kayakuchi, Barpeta. They were arrested from Bhalukabari village in Barpeta. Barpeta Sadar police station Officer in-charge Ranjan Doley said, "The two arrested persons were involved in a cyber crime racket at Alipurduar in West Bengal."
They had allegedly hired ATM cards of Federal Bank customers and looted them. The Federal Bank ATM cards were hired for Rs 500 per ATM per day. The ATM cards were then handed over to cyber crime racketeers at Alipurduar in West Bengal. These racketeers hacked the bank accounts of various people and transferred the money to a specific account of the rented ATM cards. The racketeers then withdrew the money through the rented ATM cards. Investigating the money taken out of the bank accounts of various people, the police unearthed an inter-state cyber crime racket operating in Barpeta. This new modus operandi of hiring ATM cards of illiterate and ignorant people has stunned the police as well. Police investigation is on. Police sources said that more people were likely to be arrested.
