Interactive session with senior citizens held in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Uttar Lakhimpur Xahitya Xabha, which was formed in 1912, five years before the Axam Xahitya Xabha was constituted, has taken an initiative to hold interactive sessions among the senior citizens, senior members of the literary body regularly with a view to bringing the unknown facts, incidents of the past into light. As part of this initiative, the maiden event of the interactive session was held on Wednesday at the residence of Dr. Premananda Howborah, the president of the literary body.

The agenda of the event began with the presentation of Chiro Senehi Mor Bhasa Jononi, the title song of Axam Xahitya Xabha. It was chaired by retired medical officer Dr. Upendra Nath Dutta. Retired Principals of North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School, Deva Kumar Gogoi, Padma Sarmah Baruah, retired Vice-Principal Prafulla Sarmah, retired Principal of Lakhimpur Academy HS School, Rameswar Gogoi, and other dignitaries attended the event as guests of honour. Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah and Krishnamoyee Howborah accorded special felicitation to the guests of honour. Dr. Premananda Howborah explained the objective of the event while Dr. Bonti Gogoi Howborah delivered the welcome speech.

At the outset, the meeting observed a one-minute silence at the demise of prominent retired professor-cum-prominent writer Swarna Dhekial Phurkan, who was the lifetime member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. During the event, the senior citizens, senior members of the literary body threw light on various colourful experiences of their academic, social life and their fields of work which were the parts of history of Lakhimpur district.

Dr. Upendra Nath Dutta delivered a lecture highlighting various health tips which the senior citizens should strictly follow to control diabetes, high pressure and different kinds of old-age ailments. Retired Deputy Inspector of Schools Kanakeswar Deka Rajkonwar exhibited magic while senior vocal artiste Champa Borah presented songs in the event wherein almost 100 senior personalities of North Lakhimpur were present. The next interactive session of this initiative will be held at the residence of Padmeswar Chutia, the retired Principal of Ujjalpur HS School.
