DOOMDOOMA: Sadiya sub-divisional administration in collaboration with police administration, Indian Red Cross Society, Sadiya Branch, Health department and TMPK celebrated International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Monday.
On this occasion, an anti-drugs awareness meeting was held at the Conference Hall of No. 4 Shantipur of Sadiya Sub-Division with Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) [SDO(Civil)] in-charge ADC Manash Jyoti Nath in the chair. In his address SDO(Civil) Nath, urged the police administration to take measures against the drug abuse in Sadiya sub-division and to make people of the sub-division aware against ill effects of drugs .The meeting was also addressed by the SP of Sadiya Police District Mrinal Deka. He explained the significance of the day and the ill effects of the use of drugs. The event was also addressed by the medical officers of mental health and AIDS who elaborated the consequences of the drug addicts.
HAFLONG: The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organized by the Dima Hasao Police and District Administration was observed at the District library auditorium with good participation of students, teachers on Monday. The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Simanta Kumar Das, SP Mayenk Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Inspector of Schools Gayatri Naiding, and others.
On the occasion DC, SP, and others explained at length the evil effects of drugs and how the neighbouring enemy countries trying to destroy the youth strength of the country. They also appealed to all the students in particular not to fall prey to such dangerous habit of drugs rather they should pursue other activities like sports etc for their health and brain development.
This day is recognized to highlight the health challenges related to drug abuse and trafficking and encourage combating measures like prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation. Understanding the underlying causes of drug usage and promoting evidence-based approaches to drug prevention and treatment are two of the main objectives of celebrating this day. During the observance, extempore speech competition was held wherein a good number of students took part and delivered a very insightful speech. Prizes were distributed among the students for their brilliant speeches on today’s theme.
SILCHAR: Along with rest of the country, “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” was observed in Cachar district here on Monday, with the motto of “Nesha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”. A rally, flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, was organised by the district administration to raise awareness against drug abuse and illegal trafficking. Later, Saksham, a voluntary organization performed a street play to raise awareness against drug abuse. A pledge was also taken to create awareness among the people.
ADC Antara Sen said, “People who use drugs face stigma and discrimination, which can further damage their physical and mental health and prevent them from getting the help they need.”
The rally was also participated by students and other members from the district administration of Cachar along with District Child Welfare Association, District Health Service, Silchar Residential Boys School, Cachar College, Shivsundari Nari Shiksharam, Indian Red Cross Society.
NAGAON: In sync with the rest of the globe, several educational institutions of the district including Dhing College, Nagaon Govt Boys’ HS School and other, observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Monday. Dhing College organized an awareness campaign against drug menace prevailing across the globe. Dr Pankaj Kumar Bora chaired the programme in which Zuberul Amin ICTC counsellor (Dhing FRU) Assam State AIDS control society, Amrit Talukder block extension educator, Dhing PHC and Dibya Jyoti Baruah, News reporter of Pratidin Time attended the programme as the resource persons.
Dr Biman Hazarika, principal of Dhing College, enlightened the students upon drug abuse and all the resource persons put forwarded their views regarding the present scenario of drug uses and illicit trafficking. The students took part in speech competition and poster making competition on the theme and was awarded accordingly. The day long programme was concluded with taking pledge against drug abuse. The programme was organized with the help of Dr Ujjayanta Das, co-ordinator Red Ribbon club, Dr Mukut Moni Saikia, NSS PO Dhing College and Puranda Gogoi CTO, NCC unit Dhing College.
Similarly, NCC cadets and other students from Nagaon Govt Boys’ HS School also observed the day with a day-long programme here at the school campus. The cadets, students as well as other teachers of the school also took out an anti-drug rally throughout the small town and tried to make people aware of the fatal consequences of drug abuse. The rally was spearheaded by NCC officer and teacher of the school Saiful Islam and assistant teacher Ratul Bora.
