International Day of Girl Child observed in Dhubri

On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, Piramal Foundation, in collaboration with the district administration of Dhubri along with the Education department, initiated a day-long programme on Sunday in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, CiNi, Daring Organization, Ojasvi and Vivekalam.

DHUBRI: On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, Piramal Foundation, in collaboration with the district administration of Dhubri along with the Education department, initiated a day-long programme on Sunday in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, CiNi, Daring Organization, Ojasvi and Vivekalam.

The idea was to spend time with the girl child by raising awareness related to gender inequality as well as help them to realize their dreams and legal rights. The day was celebrated by the female teachers and volunteers from different organizations who conduct orientation programmes with the girl child between the ages of 6-14 years from local communities.

More than 37 female teachers, Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCCs) and 85 volunteers of different educational blocks of the district participated in this programme along with 1,377 students which included 1,170 girls and 207 boys.

The female teachers and volunteers not only encouraged the girls to speak for their rights and dreams but also pledged to provide the girls a safe world with equal rights.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri district Programme Leader of Piramal Foundation, Tanima Narayan said that teachers and the volunteers conducted different activities to celebrate the day such as yoga, self-defense sessions, discussion forums on safe and unsafe touch, painting sessions, exhibiting their talents through dance, singing, story-telling and acting.
