International Mother Earth Day was observed at Doomdooma College under the auspices of its economic forum

DOOMDOOMA: International Mother Earth Day was observed at Doomdooma College under the auspices of its economic forum on Friday. The programme got underway with tree plantation at the college premises. Dr Meena Devi Baruah delivered a speech on the subject as chief speaker. She pointed out the menace of using plastic in huge quantities that had an adverse effect on our environment.

In the beginning, Anju Konwar, Head of the Economics Department, who anchored the whole programme, gave an account of the economic forum that was formed in 2008. On the other hand, Principal Dr Prakash Jyoti Barthakur welcomed the guests and inaugurated a book on the environment published by the economic forum.

The meeting was also attended by Former Associate Professors of the Economics Department Beena Devi Bordoloi and Pranita Handique. The prizes of the art competition that was held on April 20 were given away in the meeting. The significant aspect of the programme was that a 15-member group of students named 'Brikhya Bandhu' was constituted. They would be entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the trees of the college campus. The programme came to an end with the offering of a vote of thanks by Amrita Buragohain and Karabi Bora.
