International students visit Tezpur University under Rotary Youth Exchange Programme

Eleven students from various countries around the globe visited Tezpur University on October 12 and October 13 under the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme.

TEZPUR: Eleven students from various countries around the globe visited Tezpur University on October 12 and October 13 under the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme.

Students aged between 15 to 19 years, belonging to countries such as Japan, Spain, Brazil, France, Italy and Germany, got a first-hand experience of new languages, varied cultures and facilities available at Tezpur University. Through this exchange programme of the Rotary Club, the students get to visit new places, exchange creative ideas and develop long-lasting friendships.

Rotary International District 3240 organized the visit of the international students under the Rotary Youth Exchange programme which is a programme of Rotary International since 1929.

To introduce the visiting students to the University, the Tezpur University fraternity organized an interaction session between the international students, students of Tezpur University and the University fraternity at the Council Hall of Tezpur University. The programme began with a welcome note from Prof Manabendra Mandal, Dean, Students' Welfare. Prof Dhruba Kumar Bhattacharrya, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), addressed the gathering and felicitated the international students with a phulam gamusa. Dr. Biren Das, Registrar, explained the genesis of the programme and welcomed the international students to Tezpur University.

Prof Farheena Danta, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, introduced the various programmes offered by the school to the visiting students. Prof. Prasanta K. Das, Director, International Students Office, spoke about the various international students studying at the University.

A few visiting students also shared their experiences about the University and the Indian culture. They were delighted to encounter the plural cultural landscape of India and picked up a few Hindi and Assamese words on the way.

After the interactive session, the international students visited the various installations, including the museums and innovation centre on the University campus. The visiting students expressed their delight at the state-of-the-art campus and facilities of Tezpur University and the congenial teacher-student relationship.
