BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bilasipara subdivisional branch, International Women’s Day 2020 was observed at Bilasipara on Sunday in the premises of the Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan, Bilasipara. In this connection, a seminar was held on gender equality and women’s rights with Hridayananda Das, vice-president of IRCS, Bilasipara subdivisional branch, as moderator. Dr. Kanu Lal Das, chairman of IRCS, Bilasipara subdivisional branch, delivered the welcome address. Multupa Begum, in-charge Principal of Dhubri Girls’ College, Dayal Paul, senior journalist and others were resource persons.
Tezpur: Defence Research Laboratory (DRL-DRDO), Tezpur celebrated International Women’s Day-2020 in its Tezpur campus located at Solmara Army Cantonment. Simmi Dayal, zonal president of AWWA, Gajraj Corps, graced the occasion as chief guest. Dr. SK Dwivedi, Director of DRL, welcomed all the dignitaries and emphasized the importance of women in research activities, especially for defence sector. DRDO is a knowledge based organization where women scientists are leading from the front in several technology and corporate clusters of DRDO. Dr. Rama Dubey, Scientist ‘E’ presented an overview of research activities going on at DRL and emphasized the role of women researchers leading to the significant contribution of DRL in defence forces as well as civilian sector.
MANGALDAI: The Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Darrang under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India celebrated the International Women’s Day with a day-long program. In the programme presided over by octogenarian women activist Rani Devi, Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das inaugurated the exhibition of handicraft displayed by the successful beneficiaries of JSS, Darrang. Assistant director Jogesh Ch. Talukdar, Director of JSS, Sheikh Md. Amin, chairperson of Kharupetia Municipality Board, Krishna Saha and journalist Abdul Khalek also took part. Legislator Guru Jyoti Das in his speech highly appreciated the JSS, Darrang for their activities for the skill development of the poorest of the poor and offering the scope for self-employment. He elaborately discussed the schemes which were important for women empowerment and provided them employment, self-employment and wage employment in different sectors. He also said that women played a vital role in the society for growth of economy and he said that due to women’s participation the GDP of Assam was growing higher.
Dibrugarh: Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) observed International Women’s Day on Sunday. Keeping in view the generation equality campaign theme ‘Each for Equal: An equal world is enabled world’, a panel discussion was organized. In the panel discussion invited panellists were Sanchita Banerjee, Chief General Manager, Oil India Limited, and apex president of Women In Public Sector (WIPS), Tarali Sarmah, renowned playback singer and music director, Sanjukta Dutta, an Assamese designer who designs unique styled Assamese mekhela chador blended with modern accent in a contemporary fashion, and Aradhana Borthakur, Assistant Professor, Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University.
The event was also graced by Reep Hazarika, Managing Director, BCPL, and Asit Das General Manager (HR). Asit Das, General Manager (HR), in his opening remarks emphasized the subject of gender equality by showing a presentation on WLFPR (Women Labour Force Participation Rate) and why it was declining day-by-day with huge rural gap.
