International Yoga Day celebrated at Nagaon police reserve auditorium

NAGAON: Nagaon district administration, National Ayush Mission, Assam in association with Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sanstha observed the 9th International Yoga Day by organizing a district-level yoga practice programme at Nagaon police reserve auditorium on Wednesday morning. Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, local MLA Rupak Sarma and Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon, Narendra Kr Shah initiated the yoga practice programme by lightning the ceremonial lamp at the police reserve auditorium.

SP Navaneet Mahanta, CEO, Nagaon Zila Parishad, Ananta Gogoi, district development commissioner Satyajit Chetia, Joint Director of District Health Services, Nagaon, Dr Arup Jyoti Mahanta, and other officials participated the programme here. Over 300 participants from various educational institutions took part in the yoga practice programme.

Earlier on June 19, as part of celebration of the 9th International Yoga Day, the organizing agencies also conducted a series of competitions on different activities of yoga practice at Nagaon Dawson HS and Multi-Purpose School. Over 100 students from various educational institutions participated in the yoga competitions.

Moreover, NCC unit of Nagaon Government Boys’ HS School headed by Basanta Kumar Goswami, Principal of the school, and senior faculty member as well as NCC officer Saiful Islam also celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day at the school campus here. NCC cadets, teachers and other students from the school participated in yoga demonstration.

While addressing the occasion, Basanta Goswami, the principal of the school, elaborated the importance of yoga and spoke on how the regular practices of yoga help an individual to improve physical as well as mental health. Saiful Islam, associate NCC officer of the school, guided the cadets during the yoga practice.

JAMUGURIHAT: The 9th International Yoga Day has been observed around the world with the theme ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Tyagbir Hem Barua College (THB College) also observed this special day centrally in association with AISHE, NSS and NCC units of the college.

Narayan Khatiwara, a known Yoga instructor and lecturer of Chatia Junior College, conducted the Yoga practices for one hour. Earlier, Dr Ajit Hazarika, Principal of the college, inaugurated the special yoga camp by illuminating the ceremonial lamp. NCC cadets from Dakhin Nagsankar HS, Kusumtola Anchalik HSS, Nagsankar HS and Chatia HSS participated in the yoga camp. Nearly 350 participants attended the yoga session, including college teachers, NCC officers of the respective schools and other employees of the college. Dr Sanjib Upadhyaya, assistant professor of the college, conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session.

Along with this, all the educational institutions of the greater Jamugurihat area, including Jamuguri HSS, Jamuguri Senior Secondary School, Rangachakuwa HSS, Panpur HSS, Tupiya Panchgaon Academy, Jamuguri Adarsha HS besides the LP and MV schools under Naduar Education Block, also observed the International Yoga Day.

MANGALDAI: Darrang district administration too joined the celebration of 9th International Day of Yoga in association with Mangaldai College at its campus. Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey inaugurated the celebration at 7 am in presence of CEO of Darrang Zila Parishad, Manash Das, Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal, Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr Kamala Kanta Borah and other officials. Members from different yoga institutes of Mangaldai, volunteers from Social Welfare Department, Darrang and student and teacher fraternity of the college, including the units of NCC and NSS also participated in the yoga session demonstrated by Jitu Mahanta and Sarojini Kalita with great enthusiasm. A district-level Yoga competition was organized in the age groups starting from 10 years to 35 years and above in four different categories which continued throughout the day.

KOKRAJHAR: The district administration, Kokrajhar, in association with Patanjali Yogpith, observed the International Yoga Day at the Indoor Stadium of Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA). Minister UG Brahma, BTC EM Reo Reowa Narzihary and MLA Lawrence Islary joined the celebration along with various sections of people. Minister UG Brahma said that Yoga was the best form of exercise that prevents diseases. He also said that Yoga helps in mental growth and inner peace. He appealed all to embrace yoga as a part of life.

LAKHIMPUR: The 9th International Day of Yoga was observed by Lakhimpur district administration and District Health Society (AYUSH) in collaboration with IYNS, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and Akankhya Yoga and Wellness Centre on Wednesday. On this occasion, a programme was organized in the indoor stadium of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and it began with the lighting of ceremonial lamps by Lakhimpur SP Ananda Mishra, ADC (Health) Minakshi Perme, ADC Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, Joint Director Dr Gunin Kumar Gogoi and North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Principal Dr Biman Chandra Chetia.

In the inaugural lecture, SP Ananda Mishra explained the benefits of yoga. In the programme, trainees of the Akankhya Yoga and Wellness Centre performed rhythmic yogasanas while instructor of the institution, Munindra Neog demonstrated yogasanas for practice in the programme. Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka attended the event as guest of honour.

In the same event, prizes were given away to the winners of the district-level yogasana competition which was held on June 17 on the occasion of the 9th International Day of Yoga. The Yogasana competitors who have been selection for the participation in the State-level yogasana competition to be held by National AYUSH Abhiyan are Jyotishman Baruah (under 10 years), Hirakjyoti Dutta (under 18 years), Gyandeep Saikia (under 35 years) and Junmoni Saikia (over 35 years).

The administrative officers of Lakhimpur district administration, departmental heads, officers and employees of the Health Department, students and faculties of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), yogasana instructors and trainees of Akankhya Yoga and Wellness Centre participated in the event.
