SILCHAR: Is Silchar on way to another lockdown? This question is making round among the citizens of this town against the backdrop of increasing number of positive cases. Moreover an indication has also been given by the district administration of Cachar in a public notification issued on Thursday. Despite all out joint coordinated efforts of the administration and the health department, there has been no respite in the spread of community infection. Rather, it has assumed an alarming proportion, creating panic and tension and a cause of serious concern and challenge. Abhilash Barnawal, Assistant Commissioner of Cachar, has cautioned general public to be alert and adopt precautions failing which lockdowns may have to be imposed.
In fact, the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to make the district COVID-19 free and ensure safe and secure life of citizens. What is worrying is the infection even among persons with no travel history. Though each and every passenger alighting from the flight and train is screened and subjected to swab test and if positive report is admitted in SMCH, his or her house is kept under surveillance by marking it with COVID-19 label. A very disturbing report has come from SMCH just now. A dedicated ENT specialist Dr Arina Raha (45) has been found positive along with 7 other members of his family including her maid and driver. Of concern is with her 75 year old mother.
In the meantime, Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, in an appeal has asked people to strictly follow the guidelines of maintaining social distance, use of masks, sanitizers and disinfectants to ward off the threat of spiralling COVID-19 virus. The Deputy Commissioner who herself is monitoring the situation and keeping a close watch on the situation made it distinctly clear without public cooperation, the fight against COVID-19 can't be won. If people fail to be responsive and responsible and allow things to drift like Guwahati, the district administration will have no alternative than to go for another lockdown. Dr Rajdeep Roy MP has also given indication to the effect.
