JAGIROAD: The employees of Jagiroad Development Authority (JDA) have not received their monthly salary since the last 30 months. The employees of JDA are facing acute financial hardship as they have not got their monthly salary.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the prices of all essential commodities have sky-rocketed and as such, the employees of JDA are passing very hard days. The employees of JDA are extending services like PradhanMantriAwasYojana (PMAY), election duty and COVID duty in addition to their common duties. It is alleged that not a single paisa was paid to the employees who were engaged in COVID-19 duties.

This has caused severe resentment among the employees who have not received their salary since months. They have urged upon the district administration not to engage them in election duties.

The Government of Assam constituted development authorities in the State under the provisions of the Assam Town and Country Planning Act, 1959. So far, more than 250 employees are working in 24 different development authorities in the State. But due to lack of proper planning and sincerity on the part of the State Government, all the development authorities are nothing but a white elephant, said a senior Development Authority employee.

It has also been alleged that that the employees of the development authorities submitted many memoranda to the State Government but the government did not take any steps to redress the grievances of the employees. The employees demanded provincialization of their services and preparation of uniform service rule at the earliest.
