TINSUKIA: The staff and retired employees of six tea gardens of James Warren Tea Company resorted to indefinite sit-in from Thursday in front of the registered office at Dhoedham TE in Borhapjan under Tinsukia revenue circle in protest against non-fulfilment of various demands.

The demands included release of monthly pension to retired employees, release of 30 per cent salary against the months of March and April, 2020 that remained unpaid due to the then COVID lockdown, restoration of employment and promotion and arrangement for referral hospital. The tea gardens which resorted to strike are Dhoedham and Deomooli under Doomdooma branch; Zaloni, Rajah Alli and Balijan under Tingai branch and Thowra TE under Moran branch.

The general secretary of Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha, Rishav Kalita alleged that the officials based at Kolkata HQ were administering the gardens at their whims, without following any rules. This has rendered the registered office and garden managers functionless.
