LAKHIMPUR: The Janajati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Mancha (JDSSM) of Assam has demanded the government at the Centre to de-list the converted Scheduled Tribes (ST) from the ST List of India.
In support of the demand, the organization submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Gulab Chand Kataria, the Governor of Assam. The organization demanded that the existence of the genuine STs should be protected by de-listing the converted STs by amending the Article 342 of the Constitution of India.
Further the JDSSM, through a press release, has urged upon all ‘to help to fight and saving poor ST people from getting swallowed by very organized, communal and theocratic foreign religions, or else many ST communities’ identity and traits will extinct in no time for ever’.
“Janajati Suraksha Manch (India) and Janajati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch (Assam) have been working for the rights of ST people of India for 18 years and conducting nationwide massive public rallies to stop unethical conversion and demanding the ‘De-Listing of Converted STs from the ST List’. The objectives of the demand are to protect the original identities of the ST people of India and their original vibrant culture, customs, traditions, language and rituals, to prevent unethical conversions, to prevent double benefits (ST & Minority) taken by many converted STs, which are unconstitutional and immoral too,” said Binud Kumbang, the co-convener-cum-working president the JDSSM in the press release.
