KARIMGANJ: Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Karimganj district observed August 17 as "Jila Itihas Divas" as on that day, in the year 1947, the Tricolour flag of our nation was hoisted for the first time in Karimganj after independence. BISS secretary Biplab Deb gave his inaugural speech. BISS secretary Dr Nilanjan De, Assam Chapter, in his speech, highlighted the way through which the Bharatiya Itihas was distorted by the colonial and Marxist historiographers. He said how our glorious past was categorically removed from our history books. He said about the various projects that will be carried out by BISS, Assam and Karimganj District. Chief guests Narmada Chakraborty, Sribhumi Jila Sanghachalak, gave a motivational speech where he talked about the necessity of knowing one's own root, own country and its tradition and culture as well.
He also pointed out that BISS, Karimganj is doing a great job and trying its best to highlight and reconstruct the history of the district. Keynote Speaker, Dr Rajdeep Chanda, Associate Prof. Department of History, R. S. Girls' College and State Executive member of BISS, Assam Chapter, spoke about the historical importance of the day. How Sylhet district was transferred to East Pakistan when the country was partitioned in the year 1947, the history of three areas of Ratabari, Patherkandi, Badarpur and half of the thana area of Karimganj thana. He talked about the socio-political condition of the present Karimganj during those days when the Pakistani Flag was hoisted after August 15, 1947 and how on August 17 those areas joined back to India.
Finally, BISS president Bijoy Krishna Goswami gave his presidential speech by summarizing the whole programme and thanking all for their cooperation. The programme was hosted by Nandita Das, organising secretary of BISS with the help of Dr Memchaton Singh, Mahila Itihaskar Pramukh, BISS.
