Joint meeting held on village notification, constituency delimitation under BKWAC

The All Boro Students’ Union (ABSU), United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) and All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) held a meeting on village notification and constituency delimitation under the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), which was formed as per Article 5.1 of the Third Bodo Peace Accord.

LAKHIMPUR: The All Boro Students’ Union (ABSU), United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) and All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) held a meeting on village notification and constituency delimitation under the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), which was formed as per Article 5.1 of the Third Bodo Peace Accord.

The meeting was organized at the Bodoland Guest House, located at Khanapara under the management of ABSU president Dipen Boro. In the meeting, detailed discussion was held over the issues of the Bodo villages under Goalpara district and South Kamrup, which have been included in Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC). The meeting welcomed the process to have the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council upgraded to the Sixth Schedule and advocated a unified movement of ABSU, UBPO and ARSU to include the RHAC in the Sixth Schedule in the upcoming days.

The meeting took resolutions to include the Bodo villages under Goalpara district and South Kamprup in BKWAC and adopt developmental schemes to implement at those villages until the inclusion of the RHAC in Sixth Schedule. The meeting also took resolution to form constituency for the Bodos in RHAC in priority basis, so that they could sustain political right and play crucial role in RHAC when it would be included in Sixth Schedule.

Further, the meeting urged Assam Tribal Affairs Minister Dr Ronoj Pegu, BTR Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal, BTR, RHAC and BKWAC authorities to resolve the issue of village notification under BKWAC as per instruction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and decided to raise a demand for the formation of a high-level committee by November 12 in this regard.

The meeting was attended by ABSU speaker Abit Narzary, vice-president Khwrwmdao Owari, assistant general secretary Dinesh Brahma, and several other top office bearers.
