Jorhat District Animal Husbandry organizes a training camp on animal feed and fodder held

JORHAT: Jorhat District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department organized a farmers’ awareness-cum-training programme on animal feed and improved variety of grass cultivation in two blocks of the district. The camps were carried out at Baghchoong GP office and Government livestock farm, Kaliapani at Teok recently. About hundreds of selected progressive farmers from various part of the district participated in the camps. Dr Ranjan Patar, the Livestock Development Officer, welcomed and spoke on the objectives of the training programme. Fodder Development Officer Dr Rajib Bhattacharya, the Veterinary Officers Dr Prakashpran Bora, Dr Mohan Bharali, Dr Panchanan Pegu, Dr Rajib Duara and Dr Saponjyoti Bhuyan attended the camps as resource persons on various topics of the cattle feed production with indigenous techniques and materials. In the camp the topics of quality fodder cultivation, preservation of fodders, silage production, hay making etc including addition of probiotics and mineral mixers in the feeds were discussed. They also highlighted the importance of new varieties of grass cultivation that can improve the quality of cattle feed and help farmers to minimize the cost of production.

Dr Dipak Darabdhara, the Joint Director and Dr Prabinkumar Neog, the Assistant Research Officer of the department, attending the programme delivered a speech and gave away the certificates and urged the farmers to be self reliant through animal entrepreneurs.
