Guwahati: A lawyer has been arrested by the Jorhat Police for allegedly duping a client of Rs 15,000.
According to reports, the lawyer named Padum Karmakar allegedly took the money from a poor client for her husband's bail and disappeared.
The client's husband was apprehended on charges of burglary by Cinamora Police on April 15, 2022.
The client was in such distress that she approached the Bar Association seeking help.
Reportedly, the man was often spotted by the lawyers at the Bar association, however, none gave much attention to him.
Later, after his identification, the Jorhat Bar Association summoned the lawyer Karmakar for an interrogation at the office of the Bar Association.
Eventually, the lawyer confessed his crime before the association and also revealed his alleged involvement in duping clients for money.
In this regard, a case was also registered against him at the Jorhat police station.
