TINSUKIA: A Doomdooma-based journalist, Nawantik Orang was injured after he was attacked with a sharp weapon by a miscreant whom he could identify as Sudip Debnath (35), while he was returning home after duty at Na-Bormura Gaon under Dholla PS of Sadiya Police District on Saturday evening.

According to Orang, after he parked his bike near a shop, Debnath kicked him on the chest, under the impact of which Orang fell on the ground. Debnath then atatcked him with a sharp weapon. As Orang was wearing a helmet, he received bruises in the neck region. Some people from the shop came to the rescue of Orang and Debnath fled under the cover of darkness. Orang further alleged that Debnath had connections with ruling party members and was involved in illicit supply of liquor during the last Assembly election, and for which he faced the ire of Debnath after he had filed stories against him.

The Tinsukia District Journalists' Association along with other press clubs, including Doomdooma Press Club, strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of the culprit as he has been already identified. Though Dholla police have registered a case no 36/2022, the accused is purportedly absconding.
